Have you ever wished you could make all your decisions with good sound wisdom? There is a way you can.

God IS wisdom. Although He knows all things at all times, He is never described as intelligent. There is a very good reason for that. Do you know any intelligent people that are not all that wise? I know some who are far smarter than I am, but are truly foolish when it comes to the things of God. Therefore, intelligence alone is never what we need the most for our decision making, it is the wisdom of God.

James 1:5 tells us: If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives to all men liberally and ungrudgingly and it shall be given him.

Our God is a good God and a very generous God. At all times He desires to give us the wisdom and guidance we need for our individual lives. He is able to do this because He holds it all. He possesses it all. BUT in order to have access to this wisdom, we must go to the Supplier and ask. God promises that what He will give is not just a bit of what we need; He will give us wisdom liberally (bountifully, lavishly).

V: 6 But let him ask in faith, never doubting. For the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven with the wind and tossed.

I love how ‘visual’ this verse is. God’s word is so exciting because He gives us so many things we can see in our minds and therefore understand and relate to. So basically, my request for wisdom, from Wisdom must have the component of faith and trust. If my faith is not complete in the One I come to, doubt is present and I am compared to a wave that goes back and forth over and over again. You may think, “What’s the big deal if we bring some ‘uncertainty’ to the Lord when we ask?” Well, it really is a big deal. Look at what God tells us next:

V: 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord.

Whew! God is direct and always honest. Whether we like His answer or not; He tells us what is true, what is right, and what is best. He has no reason at all to minimize what is expected of us as we approach Him.

For Today: What do you need wisdom for in your life right now? Have you gone to the Lord and asked Him for whatever it is? And have you gone with a solid assurance that He is able, He is willing, and that He will? If not, you and I are compared to an aspect of His creation that is never in one place, never still, and never sure. That is not where we belong. The waves of the ocean were designed to ‘waver’; children of the King were not.

So today, according to His word, let’s follow the steps He has outlined for us:  1. Recognize our need for wisdom in all things, and who it is that supplies it.   2: ASK the Lord, and 3: Wrap all of it in ‘unwavering’ faith.
