The News
Do you listen to the news? I never do because I find it really, really depressing. But I have a very good friend who is my source of news. She will often tell me what is going on in our ever changing world and because I know it is important to be aware, I listen. But without question, I must be very careful not to dwell on what I hear today, because it changes tomorrow. If I dwell on today’s news, my mind almost automatically goes to the “That’s it, I’m going to take my children to live in a mountain somewhere so they won’t have to be exposed to this ongoing, increasing evil!” But I know that is NOT what God wants (and it would be really hard to go food shopping too).
There is ‘news’ I must dwell on however. It is news that is relevant, timely, and full of hope. The news is Good…fantastic really!! It is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is the news that sets captives free…that gives meaning and true purpose to life.
Have you ever heard the Good News? Have you gone the next step and received the news into your own heart, and life? Has it changed you?
Praise God, THERE IS Good News, and it can be claimed as our own. And subsequently, it must saturate our thinking in every area. It is relevant for everything, at every time, and under any circumstances. Because I know Jesus and His character, I must ‘listen’ to the News of the Word, not the news of the world.
My children are therefore here, at such a time as this because God purposely created them to be. It does me no good to think of the ‘Little House on the Prairie’ days, and wish my husband and I could raise them at that time. Except for the whole butter churning thing and scrubbing clothes in the river, I’d be all for it. But you and I are here, in the year 2009, and our children are growing up in this present generation, to Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves (James 1:22).
For Today: Please don’t think I am encouraging you to be ignorant of what’s going on in our world today; I’m not. We must be informed and we must act when and how we can, to stand up for our country and our faith. But we must purposely dwell on and act on the News that has the power to save. The Person of Jesus Christ is the Living Good News. No paper, no newscast, no radio broadcast can deliver such hope. It is a hope that we must cling to and filter everything else through. It is a hope for today, for tomorrow, and for the rest of eternity!
We have been given an amazing opportunity, ESPECIALLY now and in light of the situation in our world. If Christ is our Lord and Savior, (and the Lord and Savior of our children), we have more with Him in this present age, than we’d ever have in the calmest, most peaceful times on earth without Him.
KNOW Him, LIVE Him, FOLLOW Him, and SHARE Him today.
2 Corinthians 4:1 Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart.
