One of the things I love about God’s Word is that it is crystal clear. There are no incomplete thoughts or partial options. It truly is black and white. A man or woman in search of grey will not want to investigate the Word because right and wrong DO exist: period. There are absolute truths. Opinions, feelings, and ideas cannot alter what has been ordained for all of time by our Creator.

Now, as much as I am thankful for the infallible Word of God and know it is an amazing privilege to hold it in my hands, it is far from ‘easy’ and I often don’t always ‘like’ what I see. But I always know it is best and therefore it takes precedence over all else.

Here is one of those verses: Recompense no one evil for evil. (Romans 12:17). Basically we are to pay back no one evil for evil. Do you see a single loop hole or option for an alternate way? It doesn’t exist. All the ‘buts’ in the world won’t change our instructions. Doesn’t seem fair does it? Well, it’s not only fair, it is right, and it is part of the high calling of a child of God. The next part of the verse says: Provide things honest in the sight of all men. No matter what others may choose, the imitator of Jesus is called to be pure. V 18: If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. God knows there will be those times when it won’t be possible, but as much as we possibly can puts the emphasis on the Christian’s responsibility.

If you’re looking for easy, you won’t find it following Jesus. If you’re looking for easy, you won’t find it even if you don’t follow Jesus.

V 19: Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written: VENGENCE IS MINE; I WILL REPAY, saith the Lord. This is being said to us because we are loved. God is so patient and understanding of our weaknesses; He loves us so much and instructs us so tenderly. We are His dearly beloved and must not forget that. I take great comfort in knowing that wrath does have a place, but it is never in my hands. This verse reminds me of the fact that NOTHING escapes His Holy Eyes. God will not allow evil to go unchecked or unpunished. He will “repay” so much more thoroughly than we ever could. Therefore, while we have the chance TODAY, we should do our best to do good unto all.

Consider This: Have you ever seen someone hurt or be unkind to your child? What would your response be? I know mine would be, “OK honey, I’ll take care of it.” Imagine how much more the heavenly Father will ‘right’ all the wrongs done to His children! Until then, we too can go to our Father and tell Him of the evil against us. He knows it already but we can and should bring our pains to Him. BUT we must never take ‘justice’ into our own hands. That isn’t our job; God has told us very plainly that it is His and His alone. He WILL repay. Evil will most definitely be taken care of; it is a promise straight from the mouth of Almighty God.

Meditate on this last profound thought and let it sink in deeply. Apply it every chance you get. Be not overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21
