January 8 - Proverbs Chapter 8

January 8, 2010

The first seven chapters of this wonderful Book have been presented to us in the form of “fatherly advice”. Now however God shifts the ‘Instructor’ so to speak to Wisdom.Wisdom is Jesus Christ; He will now instruct us. Mercy, grace, forgiveness, compassion, etc. never “spoke” to us in the first person; instead they are expressed as characteristics of God.  However these attributes never took center stage so to speak in the Word. This fact points us again to the recognition that WISDOM (Jesus Christ) is the highest priority for our lives. Wisdom IS who God is. Let’s open our ears, mind, and heart as wide as they will go. Someone we need desperately is about to speak…

v. 4: To you, O men, I call, and my voice is to the sons of men.

v. 6: Hear; for I will speak of excellent things, and the opening of my lips shall be right things

v. 14-15: Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I am strength. By me kings reign and princes decree justice.

v. 17-18: I love them that love me; and those that seek me diligently shall find me. Riches and honor are with me; yes, enduring riches and righteousness.

v. 20-21: I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of justice: that I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasure.

v. 22-30: The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, before there was ever an earth. When there were no depths, I was brought forth, when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills, I was brought forth. While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the beginning of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he drew a circle upon the face of the deep: When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: When he gave to the sea its limit, that the waters should not transgress his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: Then I was by him, as a master craftsman; and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him.

If this does not make us stop and wonder in awe….there is something very wrong. You and I are given the privilege of access to the very wisdom that was part of the creation of the world! What a treasure! Have you ever ‘seen’ this before? I don’t think I’ve ever viewed wisdom with the significance it needs to be viewed with. Wisdom was with God because Wisdom is God; Wisdom will lead us, provide for us, and protect us.

v. 32-35: Now therefore, listen to me, O you children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. Hear instruction, and be wise, and do not refuse it. Blessed is the man that hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whosoever finds me finds life, and shall obtain favor from the LORD.

For Today: The ‘Wisdom’ that created the foundations of the earth and every little detail of life is THE VERY SAME Wisdom that is available to guide us daily! His name is Jesus Christ. If we truly grasped this, there would NEVER be a worry about anything…….how could there be?

January 7 - Chapter 7

January 7, 2010

As we begin today, here are some points to ponder before we look at scripture.

The great I AM speaks through this precious Word we hold in our hands. One word regarding anything from Him should be enough for us to be on ‘high alert’, with obedience as our chosen course of action. But when in His grace He repeats things over and over….again and again…we are given a glimpse of how passionate He is about sharing with us what is best. How completely ought we attend, tune in, and follow…....

January 6 - Chapter 6

January 7, 2010

The Creator Himself is the One who gave us variety. Look all around; everything we see is different, though all of it is a reflection of His character and glory. He has given us color, size, shape, texture, depth, and height. From a massive mountain range to the never ending sky…from the host of the starry sky to the effects of the all encompassing sun…all the way to the smallest of seeds that brings forth life in the form of plants and trees…to the intricate bird that moves from place ...

January 5 - Chapter 5

January 6, 2010

Along with the GREAT instruction of what to do to be wise, comes the GREAT instruction of what not to do.

*****warning*****                    *****Warning*****

Warnings are a high alert for us to use extreme caution. We are all too familiar with them on a very practical basis, AND we heed these warnings because we believe that the results will be devastating. For example: Don’t allow electrical items to come in contact with water. Don’t light a match near something that says “contents ar...

January 4 - Proverbs Chapter 4

January 4, 2010

How many talks (or lectures as you probably called them) did your parents have with you as you were growing up? How many have you had with your children so far? Now what about this, how many do you remember really tuning into? For me the answer is not many. But the very nature of being a parent brings with it the need to instruct; to tell those you love what is most important. This instruction doesn’t come from out of the blue, but it comes from real life personal experience. In other words...

January 3 - Proverbs 3

January 3, 2010

I really like how this chapter is presented. It clearly tells us what the commands of God are, AND the reasons to keep them. Have you ever noticed that often we (and our children) are more likely to follow something if we understand the reason why? Of course we must obey despite always understanding, but God in His goodness is willing to explain much of why He calls us to do what He does.

Command (in italics)        ~AND~            reason to keep (in bold)

V1.My son forget not my law.  v2. For...

January 2 - Proverbs 2

January 2, 2010

How many of you have ever said to your child, “If you eat all your dinner then you may have dessert?” What about this: “If you finish your work then you can play?” There are so many examples of this in our lives. To sum it up, there are requirements that the first part of something happens prior to getting the part that is best or the part that we want. The benefit cannot come prior to the work or effort involved initially. This is true with all things in our life.

With that in mind, l...

January 1 - Proverbs Chapter 1

December 31, 2009

Welcome to Proverbs. Written by Solomon, the son of King David; the wisest man to ever walk the face of the earth. His wisdom however was not of human origin; it flowed to him and through him from the all knowing eternal God.       If Bill Gates counseled you on your finances would you listen and follow his instructions? You get the idea; what is being shared is from the One who knows……so listen; listen as if your life depended upon it.

v. 7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowled...

What if...

WHAT IF…………….by Maria Hartman

What if this Christmas our focus was on

Praising the Lord for the gift of His Son?

What if instead of songs about snowmen

Our hearts bowed in wonder at the presence of God-Man?

What if instead of the rush to buy more,

We sought out the Giver who holds eternity sure?

What if we lived like we knew He was real

And not joined with the throngs who just want to feel?

What if this King was our reason for being

Would others take notice that it’s Him they are seein...
