January 27 - Proverbs Chapter 27
1: Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.
Yes, our mouths are the topic of conversation again… let’s learn together what pertains to us.
How many times have you ‘boasted’ about tomorrow? I have done so A LOT. Don’t get sidetracked by the word boast however; it doesn’t mean “to brag” in this instance as much as it means “to possess or to own; to contain or to have.” Think about it that way: tomorrow is not ours; God owns it; God possesses it. We do not know what a day or even the next moment may bring. I’m sure many of us can bring to mind a specific moment in time when something happened that we never anticipated happening. That morning when we awoke, everything was as it always was, until…..
Planning and looking ahead is necessary to some extent for all of us. It is wise to look to the future; if we didn’t, none of us would think past the here and now. But,only this very moment is ours. How many ‘now’ moments do we miss by looking for what tomorrow will bring? Do we trust God for today if we are absorbed with what is still yet to be? And will we ever be content with what we want if we aren’t content with what we have? We must remember who OWNS tomorrow and everything in it; He owns later and tonight; all we have is now. In light of this, our lives should be a reflection of this truth. Are you honoring Him wherever you are, with whateveryou are doing right now?
2. Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.
Your lips were never meant to praise anyone but Father, Son, and Spirit. Your lips were never meant to tell others of your great works or accomplishments, but only to tell that to other about theirs. Mine too were meant for the same praise; to recognize the efforts of brothers and sisters in Christ; AND to be an encouragement to those who have no hope. You know, the best ‘praise’ we can give to others with our own lips would be to share what God says about them; to remind them that they are precious in His sight and that they were created for a great purpose and a high calling……….
For Today: Think about this friend: how could we boast in ourselves if we truly comprehended that the Great I AM is completely and utterly crazy about us? HE alone is worthy of all our praise…this is what our mouths were made for. The more we see and understand that, the more we see and understand that self is truly worth nothing without Him.
19: As water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man. Precious LORD, may my heart reflect YOU….and only YOU….TODAY.
