January 19 - Proverbs Chapter 19
3: The foolishness of man twists his way, and his heart frets against the LORD.
Here we have a foolish person…going his own way, doing his own thing, following the desires of a heart that is prideful and wicked. Trouble comes; as it most certainly will, and the fool, instead of seeing that he brought all of it upon himself, blames God for the failures. I have met so many people who do this! God is never even a consideration when they do what they do; yet…it’s ‘His fault’ when things turn out miserably. Why do so many go about life like this… believing they can handle decisions and relationships on their own…only to wind up with the fruit of their own efforts? I think one of the reasons is because in our sinful flesh we think we can go it alone. We don’t want to depend on God if it means submitting our wills and plans to Him. But how very dangerous to reject God and then treat Him as if Hehas wronged us. Only we wrong ourselves.
Instead of twisting what the LORD has made straight, we can do something so much better.
8: He that gets wisdom loves his own soul: he that keeps understanding shall find good.
Those who get wisdom show that they love their own souls, and when they get it, they are aware of the need to keep it. This ‘one’ has a promise that cannot be broken. He shall find good…and the good that is from God is an eternity greater than the ‘best’ that we can try to find for ourselves. I know that personally.
For Today: Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter days. There are many plans in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand. (V: 20-21)
Wisdom for us today and in all the days to come requires that we do something first… HEAR (counsel) and RECEIVE (instruction). If we do, we will get WISDOM; we will love our own soul as God desires, and we will… find good.
These benefits far surpass A N Y other way. Thank You Jesus….
