Good and Perfect
Every good and perfect gift is from above, and coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation, neither shadow of turning. James 1:17
This is one of those verses that is jam packed with hope. Everything that is good and everything that is perfect comes from the Father who is always Good and Perfect. That in itself is why He can give good and perfect gifts. All that He has made is a reflection of this, whether we view it that way or not.
And praise God, there is no variation with Him at any time, nor is there any shadow due to change. You know, everything changes in the light of the sun, except the Creator of the sun. Again, God had given us what we are familiar with. Often when we move, we cast a shadow. Sometimes the shadows are obvious and sometimes our movements cast changes that cannot be easily seen. Still, for the Father who is Light, nothing is altered because He does not ‘move’. He does not change even in the slightest way. Whatever seems to change in our lives does not change because He has changed. Don’t the clouds block the sun sometimes?
What gifts have you been given? Is it a home, a child, fresh water to drink, the precious possession of a Bible, etc.? All of these gifts originated from above; they came down to you and me from a generous, faithful, and immovable God. The earth and all the planets move; yet God is changeless. Do you want to hear an amazing fact? ….Each and every planet in our solar system travels around the sun. Planet Earth literally revolves around the sun. At one time people believed the sun revolved around the earth, but now we know otherwise. Not only do the planets, but each and every aspect of life revolves around the SON. The earth moving is what causes shadows then, not the moving of the sun! A coincidence? Not a chance!
For Today: God, who is good and perfect, is the Giver of that which is good and perfect. And included in His goodness and perfection dwells the aspect that there is never any variation in His character. Here is something else quite amazing. V 18: Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of His creatures…..
Friends, our imperfect sinful lives have been made perfect if we are born again, because it was God’s own will that brought us the truth of how to reach Him. We had no part in doing anything to get there. Perfection now dwells in us because of Jesus, and therefore when God looks at YOU and at me, He sees what is so hard to comprehend; He sees Goodness… brighter than the radiance of the noonday sun.
