Betrothed
Betroth is a word that you just don’t hear anymore! Its definition is as follows: the adjective form means ‘engaged to be married’. The noun form means ‘the person to whom one is engaged’. The verb form is ‘to promise to marry’. Each is important. Get ready for something amazing.
Hosea 2:19 -20 I will betroth you to me forever; yes, I will betroth you to me in righteousness and justice, in loving kindness and mercy; I will betroth you to me in faithfulness, and you shall know the LORD.
In just 2 verses, God tells us THREE times that He has attached Himself to us forever. In His righteousness and justice; in His loving kindness and mercy; and in His faithfulness …He has made a promise and a pledge to us.
What in the world could surpass this promise? He is completely committed to YOU and to me for life…..
Do you see the relationship that is offered here? He absolutely positively loves you! And He loves you that much when you are close to Him and when you wander away. When you are near to His heart He invites you closer still; when you wander and stray He gently calls your name and desires for you to come back to where you belong.
What happens when you are betrothed? You grow in your knowledge of the one whom you have joined yourself to. You grow in love as you live together and share your hopes and dreams. You are made complete as two become one; your beloved is so much a part of you that others can’t tell where one ends and the other begins. You have someone you can count on to stand by you and love you in each and every season of life. Nothing can break the covenant that was made; it is for life.
For Today: Friends, I don’t know about you, but this is almost too much to take in! He wants us. He doesn’t need us at all, He simply wants us. All of us want to be wanted but often there are conditions placed on why we are wanted; there is a need we will meet in the one who wants us. But not with Him.
Come to the One who pursues you to give, not because He has need of anything or desires to ‘get’. You shall know the LORD. That is what He desires for us; to give Himself to us. Oh friends, close your eyes and feel just how deep and rich and passionate His love for you is! We don’t have to be bound in chains of sin and hopelessness; we can be bound in chains of love that will not let us go! He has wrapped His everlasting arms around you and wants you to KNOW HIM.
You SHALL KNOW the LORD when you are joined to Him …forever……. for life.
