At The Moment
God has taught me many things personally through His word, and many of you could come up with a long list of what He has taught you. Although the specifics of how they were taught may vary, the bottom line is that all the truths themselves will be consistent throughout each and every situation. And, what we learn is never meant for just that moment. Often it is the beginning of what God desires to build upon in our lives so that we can carry it out in our day to day living. Something may ‘click’ quickly for us, but that doesn’t mean we’ve “got it”; we usually need lots of time before we really understand. The true test of whether we’ve integrated the word into the very fabric of our lives and hearts always comes when we least expect it. We are then presented with the opportunity to show what/Who it is that we truly believe.
Do you apply what you know at the times you need it most? Do you think of what God says about something the moment you are prone to think otherwise?
These are hard questions…..I have answered them myself in response to a recent situation. I was not pleased with my answers, nor was my Father honored. When given the wonderful opportunity to trust through an emergency situation, my mind was full, but not of the comforting promises of God. I chose to pursue a rabbit trail of questions in my mind that could not be answered no matter how long or hard I thought about them.
I realized I needed something very specific to be implemented so that the incorrect way I thought wouldn’t be repeated over and over again. I want to think on God’s character and purpose, no matter what happens in my life. I don’t want to resort to what the flesh understands or sees, ever. How about you?
You know, there are things I feel no matter the circumstance. But there are also specific responses from God that I can choose regarding my exact circumstance. Will I pick them to dwell on? OR will I have them so far away from the forefront of my mind that I don’t have access them?
For Today: What do you do to guard against wrong thinking when what you think really matters the most?
God graciously gave me something very simple to address this need. The worries I battle most have a coinciding scripture. With some index cards and truths that are unshakeable, I can memorize scriptures; praying daily that His word would change how I think, especially in times of pain and uncertainty……. The very verses I recently needed would have brought so much peace to my anxious heart, if I had been more diligent to keep them close to my heart. They would have reminded me of the God I serve and the One who is worthy of my trust.
I pray that all of us will join together and prepare ahead of time for what will come our way; knowing that the living word has the power to conquer any fear we face.
Philippians 4:19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 3:20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…
2 Corinthians 12:9 And He said to me,
“My grace is
sufficient for you, for
My strength is made perfect in weakness.”
Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that
the power of Christ may rest upon me
